Dumat has been struggling in a position that no man would envy ever since he began. Forced to appease Meredith so he doesn't come to the same end as his predecessor and end up killed by the Templars, he's also trapped under Orsino's constant bid for more freedom for the mages. The Qunari have arrived in his part of the world and made things even worse, upsetting the delicate balance of the city.
There is one thing which Dumat cherishes above all else, and that's his only child, Seamus. As a widower, Dumat has been the only parent to Seamus during his son's teenage and budding adult years. He wants his son to have the normal freedom to pick his own path in the world, but worries constantly that Seamus will somehow be made into a political pawn.
A far better negotiator than anything else, Dumat truly desires peace for Kirkwall, and strives for that goal through endless sleepless nights.
